Grief Support

Beginning Experience

Southwest Minnesota Beginning Experience offers Coping and Rebuilding programs in Marshall MN.

The Sessions are conducted by trained volunteers who, like you, have lost a loved one through death, divorce or separation. They have completed a Beginning Experience weekend and have had some time to heal and grow.

What can you expect? All of us have to go through our grief, however, we can ease the journey. You will meet others who have become single. You will find a safe place to share feelings and find that you are not alone. You will meet some wonderful, caring people.

During "Coping" we talk about different aspects of the stages of grief at each of the ten weekly sessions. We help each other learn to cope with our grief.

"Rebuilding" helps us when we are ready to rebuild our lives. We are continuing our journey through grief, but our grief is not as intense as it had been. We learned from the past, get to know ourselves better and prepare to face the future.

We find that people are naturally hesitant to take the difficult step to attend the first session. Many people share with us how difficult it was for them, but now are glad that they did.

Beginning Experience of Southwest Minnesota, a peer Ministry support group for widowed, separated and divorced people offers a Weekend retreat - "A Path To Healing" - the weekend provides an individual with the opportunity to encounter self and to grow with a purpose to achieve inner peace. The experience is designed to help close the door gently on the past and move on with renewed hope and purpose. The weekend retreat is held at Shetek Lutheran Ministries. Early registration is encouraged.
