Wilma Emma (Schmahl) Monahan was born on April 10, 1924, in Lake Benton, MN, to William and Anna Marie (Hamer) Schmahl. She attended school at District 17 Drammen Township. On July 1, 1959, she was married to Walter “Jake” Monahan. The couple made their home in Minneota. Walter died on August 4, 1970. Wilma moved to Marshall and made her home at Parkview Apartments and most recently at Central Minnesota Senior Care at Patricia Court in Marshall. Her interests included needlework, crocheting, crafts, playing cards, and most of all visiting with her friends and family, especially when her limited vision made her hobbies difficult. Wilma died on Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She is survived by her son, William, and his wife, Debra, granddaughter Shelby, brother Hans (and Marie) Schmahl of Marshall, three nieces Marion (Lawrence) Bennett of Lake Benton, Shirlene (Dan) Schwab of Marshall and Freida Grayden of St. Paul and many extended family members. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, one sister Emma Galbraith of Lake Benton, five brothers and sisters in infancy and three nephews.
