Wendy Kay Peterson

The memorial service commemorating the life of Wendy Peterson, 57, of Marshall, formerly of Ivanhoe, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the Remembrance Center. Interment will follow at the Russell Cemetery in Russell, Minnesota.

Wendy Kay Peterson was born on November 16, 1967, in Marshall, Minnesota, to Leslie and Donna (Pearcy) Peterson. She grew up in Russell and later moved to Ivanhoe, where she graduated from high school in 1987. In 1989, she was united in marriage to Rick Stynski at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno. To this union were born three children: Jordan, Brandan, and Kelsey.

Wendy attended Vocational Technical School in Pipestone for Medical Billing and Transcription. She worked for many years with Western Human Development (now Western Mental Health Center) and also as a CNA for several local nursing homes. Although somewhat reserved outside of work, Wendy had a deep passion for caring for others and found purpose in helping those in need.

A lifelong cat lover, Wendy cherished the companionship of many feline pets through the years. She was devoted to her family and took great joy in following her children’s and grandson’s activities. She especially adored her grandson Cade and looked forward to watching him grow. Wendy enjoyed playing basketball and softball in high school and later following local sports and the Minnesota Vikings.

After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Wendy passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her strength and determination allowed her to outlive the expectations of her diagnosis, giving them precious additional time together.

Wendy is survived by her children Jordan Stynski (Lexi Nelson) of Tyler, Brandan (Destiny) Stynski of Marshall, Kelsey (Cody) Hammerschmidt of Walnut Grove, grandson Cade Hammerschmidt of Walnut Grove; mother Donna Pearcy-Larson of Windsor, CO, siblings Michael (Hillary) Peterson of Windsor, CO, niece Adaline, Melissa Peterson of Ottumwa, IA, niece Alex Watson; former husband Rick Stynski of Ivanhoe, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Leslie Peterson.
