Wendell Sherwood Larson was born on July 29, 1930, in Swede Prairie Township, to William and Sophie (Nelson) Larson. He grew up on the family farm, attended Country School and graduated from Clarkfield High School. On September 16, 1951, he was united in marriage to Helen Clark Sims in Marshall. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Southwest Minnesota. The couple farmed in Taunton for a time before moving back to Swede Prairie Township. After Helen’s death in 1987, Wendell married Darlyne Sims on February 13, 1988. The couple lived in Minneota until moving to Boulder Estates in Marshall in February of 2012. Wendell enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing cards, especially pinochle. He also enjoyed time at his lake cabin on Moon Lake. He was very passionate about farming and enjoyed attending threshing shows. He was very fond of his pets, especially his dog Diamond and cat Sundance. Wendell was a member of the Minneota Posts U.S. American Legion and VFW, the Canby Area Shrine Club and Canby Masonic Lodge in Canby, and served on the Taunton Bank Board of Directors and Hope Lutheran Church Council.
Wendell died on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall. He is survived by wife Darlyne of Marshall, daughter Linda (and Richard “Figâ€) Nuytten of Minneota, grandchildren Jessica (and David) Moriarty of Marshall, Paul (and Sarah) Nuytten of San Jose, CA, son Danny (and Tracy) Larson of Swede Prairie Township, grandchildren Rachel Larson of Maple Grove, Renee Larson of Marshall, step children Kimberly (and Raul) Planes of Rosemount, Chris Sims of San Diego, CA, Tracy (and Heidi) Sims of Ramsey, step-grandchildren Christina, Christian and Christylyn Sims, Corey Nielsen, Christopher, Tyler and Afton Sims, great-grandchildren Imogen and Padraic Moriarty and Ryder Nuytten. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Helen and sister Sylvia Dahl.
