Wayne Gordon VanLerberghe was born on July 13, 1944, in Minneota, to Gordon and Helen (Garrow) VanLerberghe. As a young child, he moved with his family to Marshall where Wayne went to school. He worked for McLaughlin & Schulz for 12 years, then spent the rest of his career doing highway maintenance for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. On July 17, 1965, he was united in marriage to Carol Carlson at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. While their kids were young, the family enjoyed camping. Wayne also enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his family. Later in his life, he enjoyed going to casinos.
After a lengthy battle with cancer, Wayne died on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, surrounded by family and under the care of Prairie Home Hospice at his residence in Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Marshall, his children Pamela (and Darin) Giles of Tracy, Todd VanLerberghe of Minneota, grandchildren Kayla (and John) Pearson of Duluth, Danielle (and Peter) Worden of Thief River Falls, MN, Derek (and Emily) Giles of Tallahassee, FL, great-grandchildren Alex, Vaida, Johnny, Quinnton, Axton, Thorne, Taegan and Jasper, his mother, Helen, of Marshall, sister Sharlene Gagnon of Cerro Gordo, IL, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon, brothers-in-law Fran Gagnon and Donald Trigg, nephew Lonnie Gagnon and niece Jill Scherr and several aunts and uncles.
