Vert Mudder

d. October 5, 2016

Vert Mudder, 89, of New Ulm, formerly of Minneota, passed away on Wednesday, October 05, 2016 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday also at the funeral home and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in Minneota. Vert Mudder was born November 5, 1926, in George Iowa to Dirk and Ettje (Stapelmoor) Mudder. He and his family moved to a farm by Hendricks, Minnesota, in 1940. He went to a country school and completed through 8th grade in Ivanhoe, Minnesota. Later in life he received his GED certificate. He continued to help his family at home with farming until entering the Armed Forces in 1953-1955. After returning from the service he began working for McLaughlin and Schulz Construction in Marshall, Minnesota until 1982. He then joined the staff at the Minneota Manor as a maintenance man, so he could work closer to home and help care for his wife who had multiple sclerosis. He continued working there for 27 years, eventually retiring in 2009 at the age of 82. He loved working at the Minneota Manor and cherished the many friendships he developed. He frequently joked about being as old as many of the residents but happy to have his health and be able to still work. On May 25, 1957 he married the love of his life, Kathleen Ione Larson in St. Peter, Minnesota. They settled in Minneota, Minnesota. They were blessed with four children Arleen, Belinda, Clarice and David. Vert’s life revolved around his family. He loved reading and spending time with his family. He was caring, compassionate, would help anyone, had a wonderful sense of humor, was very mechanical and could fix anything, and had an amazing strength to endure life challenges. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Arleen and Jim Derynck of Rochester, Minnesota, Belinda Kruse of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Clarice and Perry Rasmussen of New Ulm, Minnesota; his cherished grandchildren: Jessica Derynck, Ashley Derynck, Amber (Justin) Knutson, Cody Zimmer, Amanda (Dan) Vetter and Tiffany Rasmussen; great-grandchildren: Jents, Avery, and Jasper Knutson and Jonah Vetter; brothers Andrew of Hendricks, Minnesota, John (Mae) of Watertown, South Dakota, Harold (Lenora) of Mandan North Dakota; sisters-in-law: Melva Prochel of Apache Junction, Arizona, and Lynda Mudder of Brookings, South Dakota; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and relatives in Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen; son, David; brothers: Henry and Dick and great-grandson, Josiah.
