Shirley Ann was born on May 15, 1965, in Westbrook, the daughter of Robert and Carol (Miller) Lanners. She graduated from Marshall High School, then attended college to obtain her Certified Nursing Assistant license. Shirley worked as a CNA most of her adult life caring for others.
Shirley married James âJimâ Peterson on December 16, 1984. The couple lived in rural Garvin, where they raised their three children, Jonathon, Mary, and Lance. Jim passed away suddenly in 2000. It was late in 2008 at a singles dance when she met David Thooft. They were united in marriage on September 18, 2010. This union combined their families, and Shirley became a step mom to Danica and Austin.
Shirley loved to go on camping trips, and on their annual fishing trip she would always remember to spoil the chipmunks. In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, and throwing darts. She had a dream of having her own Harley, which she got and could be found riding into the sunset with Dave. Shirley was a spontaneous, full of life woman who always had a smile on her face and could make people laugh with her one liners and quick wit. She frequently invited the family over, as her favorite time was when everyone was together. Shirley and Dave purchased their little piece of paradise in rural Lynd in December 2018. Her top goal was to spoil her grandkids and that she did! Her caring personality and sense of humor will be dearly missed.
Shirley passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family, the people she loved most. She is survived by her husband, David Thooft; children Jonathon (Amy) Peterson, Mary (Jesse) Wisniewski, Danica (Armando Gaona) Castle, and Austin (Kayla) Thooft; grandchildren Lauren, Alex, Emma, and Hunter Peterson, Michael and AftonJo Wisniewski, Leo, Mason, Alexa, Fernando, and Ivan Gaona Castle, and Maverick Thooft; siblings David Lanners, Connie (Randy) Schreier, Kevin (Chris) Lanners, Mike (Kelly) Lanners, Dale (Kathy) Lanners, and Robert Lanners Jr.; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Carol Lanners; first husband Jim Peterson; son Lance Peterson; and sister-in-law Dawn Lanners.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Prairie Home Hospice and Community Care.
