Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, at St. Maryâs Catholic Church, with Rosary at 9:45 and visitation from 10-11. Interment and lunch immediately following Mass.
Sharon Eulalie DeVetter was born December 4, 1937, to Theodore and Mildred (Dumas) Vershey in St. Paul, MN. Her family moved numerous times until settling in the Tracy area. Sharon graduated from Tracy High School in 1955. This is where she met and married the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) DeVetter, and began an inseparable 63 years of life together. As they made their home together, Chuck worked at the Chicago & North Western Railroad for 10 years as a locomotive fireman and engineer, then owned and operated the A&W Drive-In in Tracy. Sharon devoted her time to raising their five children and to volunteer work. She was a Girl Scout leader, ran the Miss Tracy Pageant for 12 years, and served on the board that worked with HUD to build the Centennial Homes (Twin Circle Apartments).
Sharon was a free spirit who did not see the need for a driver's license, preferring to ride her white bike everywhere. She was artistic and creative and had a lifelong love of painting, drawing, decorating her home and making Christmas decorations. Sharon's artistic spirit helped develop that love for creativity and art in her children. She was an ardent supporter of all her children's and grandchildrenâs activities and sports and was an especially fervent wrestling and football fan.
In 1983, Sharon and Chuck moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where they worked together many years selling residential real estate. Sharon then sold designer clothes at Dillard's and Von Maur. She loved decorating homes and wearing beautiful clothes.
Sharon's true pride and joy, however, were her five children and, later, the reward and blessing of 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Family meant everything to Sharon.
In 2011, Sharon and Chuck were happy to move back to their hometown and begin renovating their home, but their retirement years were marked with poor health for Sharon and devoted caregiving by Chuck.
Sharon, age 80, of Tracy, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 22, with Chuck at her side. Sharon is survived by her husband Chuck; son-in-law Steve Daniels; sons Chuck Jr. (Sue), Michael (Carol), Mark (Kim), and Paul (Tammy); 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; siblings Gwen (Gene) Irons, Adelle (Don) Mosch, Ted Vershey, Tom Vershey; many in-laws, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Vershey and Mildred and Derald Weinberg, and her beloved daughter, Kimby Daniels.
