Roland Herman Peters

Roland Herman Peters was born on October 21, 1923, in Stanley Township, to Herman and Agnes (Kelly) Peters. He grew up on the family farm in Stanley Township. On June 2, 1947, he was united in marriage to Esther Kindler at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley. The couple raised their family a short distance from where Roland grew up. He worked for Carlson & Stewart Refrigeration from the mid 1960’s until his retirement in 1986. Roland enjoyed fishing and spending time at the lake place in Brainerd. He also enjoyed music. He played the accordion, sang with the Marshall Men’s Chorus and directed the choir for a time at St. Clotilde Catholic Church. He was an active member of his church where he taught religious education. Roland died suddenly on Sunday, July 5, 2015, at his lake residence in Brainerd, MN. He is survived by his wife, Esther, of Marshall, children Ellen Hawkinson (and Jim Costigan) of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Gene (and Laura) Peters of Stewartville, MN, Kenneth Peters of Stillwater, grandchildren Kimberly, Kristina, Brittney (and Jesse), Brianna and Tyler, great-grandchildren Kyle, Brayden and Liliana, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers Roger and Robert and sisters Marion and Helen.

Guestbook

Dear Mrs. Peters, I am the eldest child of Roy and Eva Carlson and the first cousin of Bud Stewart. I picked up on Rollie's obituary when I was looking for the obituary of one of my high school classmates, Marj DeSchepper. When I was going to the U of M, I worked for Bud the summers of 1960 and 1961 and knew Rollie at that time. Because of the passage of time and deaths, there are probably very few people that remember Rollie from the time he worked at Carlson and Stewart so I think it is my responsibility to pass on condolences on behalf of the people that worked there with him, including my mother. She retired and moved to Minneapolis to be near her family a year after Rollie retired. Blessings on you and your family. Lee Carlson

So sorry for the loss of Roland Peters, cousin to my father Harold Launspach (1905-1996) whose mother was a Peters. Roland was good about sharing family history and keeping me updated on happenings from the family in Minnesota. While Harold and Phyllis Launspach did little traveling, Roland and Esther made trips to Iowa where Roland always took on some repair project while visiting. He will be missed.
