Rodney "Butchie" Joseph Krueger

Mass of Christian burial for Rodney “Butchie” Joseph Krueger, 72, of Slayton, MN will take place on Friday, June 13, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy, MN beginning at 11:00 a.m. Public visitation will begin one hour prior to the funeral mass. Upon conclusion of the funeral, a luncheon will be provided at church. Private family burial will take place at a later date.

Rodney “Butchie” Joseph Krueger was born on March 24, 1953 to Royal and Vernette (Marcotte) Krueger in Tracy, MN. He grew up on a farm west of Tracy and attended Tracy schools graduating from Tracy High School in the spring of 1971. Upon graduation he continued his education at Worthington Vo-Tech until he listed into the United States Army.

Once Rodney completed his service he returned home to Tracy where he worked various jobs before becoming a member of the Laborers International Union of North America. He began his career with the union post #132 out of Saint Paul until merging with post #563 in Minneapolis. He then got a job for NSP were he worked for 30+ years until his retirement in 2005.

Rodney met and married Susan Rothmeier; together they have two sons Corey and Jamie. The couple later divorced. Rodney then met Virginia Foss while working at the power plant in Granite Falls, MN. The couple fell in love and was married in Murray on August 28, 1998.

Rodney had many hobbies throughout his lifetime. He loved to go big game hunting at Corey’s canyon and enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. He was proud of his military service and served as the commander the American Legion in Garvin Post #273. He could be found flagging the graves of service members who passed away every Memorial Day. Rodney’s friends and family were important to him. He found joy in throwing parties for his loved ones and always made time for his grandchildren. He was a history buff and enjoyed studying military history. In 1975 Rodney was the state left hand arm wrestlings champion. He was proud of his custom painted Dodge van. 

Rodney passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the Select Medical Sanford Health Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

He is survived by his wife Virginia Krueger; children Corey Krueger, Jamie (Mariah Skjefte) Krueger; step-children Josh (Nicole) Remiger, Denise Johnson, Dawn (Brian) Holmseth, Matthew (Stephanie) Foss, Debbie Oswald, Michael Foss; grandchildren Kyle Krueger, Hunter Krueger, Kayleigh Krueger, Carter Coffelt, Genevieve Krueger, Grace Krueger, Mckayla Remiger, Taylor Remiger, Levi Remiger, Tyler Johnson, Lexi Johnson, Parker Johnson, numerous other grandchildren; siblings Roger Krueger, Robert (Alita Bakuzis) Krueger; close friend Dave Anderson and family; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Rodney is preceded in death by his parents Royal and Vernette; siblings Raleigh Krueger, Ronald Krueger, Rosemary Krueger-Martin, Richard Krueger.
