Robert Lawrence Bottelberghe was born on November 23, 1935, in Lincoln County to August and Gabriella (Maeyaert) Bottelberghe. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Minneota. After graduation from Minneota High School, Robert was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in active duty for a couple of years and was later called into the Army Reserves. On September 15, 1962, he was united in marriage to Yvonne Neyens at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. The couple farmed and raised their family in Minneota. Robert farmed until he was 82 and continued helping his son until his health declined at age 87. Robert enjoyed shenanigans with his siblings, neighbor friends, children, grand and great-grandchildren. His favorite place was the pasture by the creek. Robert was active in his community. He served many organizations including AMPI Board, Chairman of the Limestone Township Board, Lyon County Farm Service Junior Board, the St. Edward School Board and was Past-Commander of the American Legion Post 199. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, deer hunting, “tinkering” and following his grandchildren’s activities, highlighted by many state tournaments with various sports. Robert and Vonnie enjoyed several trips to special places including Hawaii, Alaska, and Washington D.C. as well as a memorable RV trip to Texas with his family. Robert always had one more laugh to share with his witty one-liners.
