Mass of Christian Burial for Robert “Bob” Brewers, 93, of Marshall, will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. A walk through visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow the service at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. Robert John “Bob” Brewers was born on January 27, 1927, in Ghent to Louis and Blanche (Rogge) Brewers. Known as “Wormy” to his friends and “Uncle Wormy” to his nephews. Bob attended District 44 School until the close of eighth grade. He helped his dad on the family farm until he enlisted in the Navy, at the age of 17, on November 28th, 1944. From there he attended Great Lakes Boot Camp, North Chicago, Illinois. He spent another two months training at Camp Shoemaker located in the San Francisco Bay area of California, followed by six months at Naval Air Station Alameda, Alameda, California. His final deployment was to the Naval Air Station located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Bob served our country in World War II and was honorably discharged from the Navy on July 10th, 1946. On October 18, 1950, he was united in marriage to Barbara Girard at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. The couple farmed and raised their family in Stanley Township. In 1969, they moved to Marshall, and Bob went to work as a truck driver for Runnings. After his (first) retirement, Bob went to work for Brewers Transfer. He drove for the family business until he was 80 years old. Bob enjoyed golfing and bowling in his younger years. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening. Bob was very fond of Minnesota professional sports and followed the Vikings and Twins very passionately. Bob died on Friday, June 26, 2020, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. He is survived by his children Donald (Darlys) Brewers of Marshall, Allan (Jeanette) Brewers of Tallahassee, FL, Brian (Dawn) Brewers of Cottonwood, Stan (Rebecca) Brewers of Marshall, Jeff (Evelyn) Brewers of Marshall, and Brenda Voges of Crosslake; grandchildren Angie (Courtney) Hughes, Anthony Brewers, Katie Brewers, Derik Brewers, Darrin (Heather) Brewers, Keith Brewers, Adam Brewers, Josh (Marie) Brewers, Ashley (Jesse) Smallfield, Nicole Finch, Jeff Brewers Jr., Samantha Brewers, Mikkel Brewers, Nathan Van Patten, Jon Van Patten, Jordan (Alyson) Voges, Megan Voges, Tanya Duppong, Jeremy Simonsen, Wesley Simonsen, and Lee Simonsen; great-grandchildren Jackson, Jacob, Gavin, Ella, Jordy, Macy, Gracie, Owen, Zach, Tristen, Conner, and Landon; siblings Wally (Georgia), Dan (Lou), Veronica Miller, Cecilia Alder, Marilyn (Dan) Gregoire, sister-in-law Bev Brewers; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara, granddaughter Stacy Brewers, and siblings Marian Brewers, Genevieve (Pat) Clark, Louis Brewers, Jeanette Drown, in-laws David Alder and Daryl Miller.
