Paul Francis Kirsh

d. January 31, 2016

Paul Kirsh died peacefully Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Avera Morningside Heights in Marshall with his loved ones at his side. Paul was born November 6, 1927, in rural Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, to Frank and Anne (Wawra) Kirsh. As a young boy, he moved with his family to a farm near Milroy, where he lived for most of the remainder of his life. Paul graduated from Milroy High School in 1945. He proudly served in the US Navy from January 1946 to November 1947, stationed at the Branch Hydrographic Office, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After his honorable discharge, Paul returned to the Milroy area where he farmed for over 40 years. Paul was united in marriage with Fern Danielowski, June 6, 1950, in Milroy. They enjoyed 32 years together. Paul worked as a rural mail carrier in the Milroy/Lucan area for 25 years, retiring in February 2001. Always a farmer at heart, he spent many years after retirement working during the planting and harvesting seasons for Greg Debbaut. As recently as this past fall, he joined nephew Dave Kirsh for a few rounds in the combine where he reminisced about farming those same fields with his father and a team of horses. Paul enjoyed bowling, golfing, collecting coins, especially pennies, vegetable gardening and watching true mysteries on TV. He also enjoyed fishing and belonged to U.S. American Legion Post 274 of Milroy. He was happy to be part of an Honor Flight to Washington, DC, and was especially moved by the show of support for the veterans during the trip. Paul enjoyed many vacations with his companion of 18 years, Donna Pinckney. His most treasured moments were spent with his daughters, grandchildren and friends. Paul will be sadly missed by his sweetheart Donna, children Paula and Shaun Herring of Rochester, Rhonda and Jeff Christensen of Sioux Falls, grandchildren Beth Christensen and Jake Christensen, great grandson Oliver Christensen, all of Sioux Falls, sisters Bernadine Keltgen of Redwood Falls and Lydia Flett of Minnetonka, sister-in-law May Kirsh of Milroy, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fern, and brother Bernard.
