Neil Francis “Budd” Medrud was born on May 30, 1927, on a farm near Balaton, Minnesota, to Nelder and Edna (Flickinger) Medrud. He lived his entire life within a fifty mile radius of Balaton. On June 10, 1948, he was united in marriage to Reta Lutterman and they remained married for nearly 68 years before her death in 2016. Budd had a talent especially for two things: farming and mechanics. In 1956, he attended the Diesel Mechanic School at the University of Chicago, graduating first in his class of over three hundred students. He was subsequently employed by Parrot Implement Shop in Balaton, while farming part-time. In 1961, he began farming full time and did so until his retirement in 2000. Budd was known as an honest and gentle man who worked hard all his life; and also a man who had a great sense of humor. He loved to laugh. In 2013, Budd and Reta moved into Heitage Pointe Senior Living in Marshall where he remained until his death. Budd died on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Heritage Pointe Memory Care in Marshall, MN. He is survived by his children Leonard (and Arthur Jordan) of Redwood Falls, MN, Robin Medrud of Cottage Grove, MN, Wayne Medrud of Yelm, WA, and Janelle Peterson of North Bend, WA; grandchildren Mark Rowe, Jonathan Thul, Melita Thul, Eric (and Anabel) FitzMedrud, Nicole Medrud, Noah Medrud, Andrea Peterson, great-grandchildren Sophia, Freya and Emmanuel FitzMedrud and sibling Steven (and Janelle) Medrud, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The Medrud family wishes to express their appreciation to the Heirtage Pointe Memory Care Staff for the exceptional care provided to Budd.
