It is with sad hearts that we announce her passing. Monica died peacefully at her home in Marshall, surrounded by family, on Monday, July 7, 2025.
Monica Jean Hirmer was born on January 1, 1939, to Philip and Cora (Lens) Hirmer in Ghent, MN. She was raised in both Ghent and Marshall with her eleven brothers and sisters. Monica graduated from Central High School in 1958. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” W. Hoof in December of 1958. Monica and Bob had five children: Denise (Clay) Rains, Susan Ford, Robert J. Hoof, Sharron (Dean) Christensen and Sharlene Hoof.
After Bob retired from the Navy in 1982, they moved back to Minnesota, buying a farm site outside of Milroy. Monica worked for 25 years at Shopko. When bob passed away, Monica moved to Marshall to be closer to family. Upon retirement, she volunteered with the funeral committee for Holy Redeemer and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Catholic Daughters.
Monica was the heart of the family – a constant source of comfort, encouragement and love. Monica enjoyed visiting with her children and grandchildren. She was always just a phone call away and opened her home to anyone who needed a place to stay.
She is survived by her daughters: Denise (Clay) Rains of Byers, CO, Susan Ford of Tulsa, OK, Sharron (Dean) Christensen of Marshall and Sharlene Hoof of Marshall; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sisters Dorothy Smith, Cornelia DeCock, Catherine Louwagie and numerous nieces and nephews. Monica is preceded in death by her husband Robert W. Hoof; her son Robert J. Hoof; parents Philip and Cora (Lens) Hirmer; siblings Phillip Hirmer, Alfred Hirmer, Francis Weldon, Bernard Hirmer, Leonard Hirmer, John Hirmer, Robert Hirmer, Mary Ellen Gorrell and great-granddaughter Sofia Rains.
