Minnie Beaverson

Minnie Beaverson, beloved sister, aunt, educator, and lifelong learner, passed away on July 18, 2025, in Atlanta. She was 85.

Born Minnie Geiwitz on July 14, 1940, in Minneota, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Beulah and John Geiwitz. Minnie graduated from Minneota Public School in 1958 and went on to earn her degree in history from St. Olaf College, where she cultivated a love for education. She later received her Master of Education from the University of Minnesota while teaching full-time.

Minnie spent over two decades shaping young minds in the Bloomington school system in Minnesota, and concluded her professional career with the State of Minnesota.

Minnie’s faith was rooted in her early involvement at Hope Lutheran Church, in which she remained active throughout her life. She was proud of her Minneota heritage and her family’s contributions to the community. Minnie loved to travel and visited England, Mexico, Europe, and Central America.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Brian Brastad and Lowell Beaverson; her parents; and her four brothers: George, Wendell, Robert, and John Geiwitz.

Minnie is lovingly remembered by her sister, Betsy Miklethun, and brother-in-law, Ray Miklethun; nieces Kirsten Miklethun, Wendy Geiwitz, Gretchen Tweet, Jenny Guy, and Sara Guy; nephews Stephen Miklethun, Gaia Kile Miklethun, Al Geiwitz, Paul Geiwitz, Fraser Geiwitz, Fredrick Guy, and Mathew Guy; and many extended family members and friends whose lives she touched.

A private family service will be held on August 21 at Hope Lutheran Church, with interment to follow at Hope Lutheran Cemetery.
