Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Darlene Deutz (97 years and 216 days) of Marshall, MN will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall on Friday, February 20th, 2026 at 11:00 am. Visitation will take place at Horvath Remembrance Center on Thursday, February 19th, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm; with a CCW Rosary at 4:00 pm and a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Friday at the Remembrance Center. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.

Darlene passed away on Friday, February 13th, 2026 at the Avera Granite Falls Care Center.

She was born July 12th, 1928 to Nicholas and Helen (Sanocki) Sovell. She was baptized as Mary Darlene Sovell at St. John Cantius Church in Wilno, MN.

Darlene lived with her parents on a farm near Wilno until the family moved to Marshall. On August 28th, 1948, she was united in marriage to Virgil Francis Deutz. They made their home in Marshall, where they adopted four children. The couple owned Deutz’s Resort on Lake Andrew near Alexandria, MN from 1969 until 1972, when they returned to Marshall.

Darlene worked as a math and library aide at Marshall Senior High School. After retiring in 1998, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their home on Pickerel Lake in Ottertail County, where she and Virgil’s legacy will continue to live on.

In life, Darlene enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow, knitting, reading, baking, playing cards (Bridge, Liverpool, and Grandma’s Game were her favorites), and spending time with her beloved friends at Hill Street Place in Marshall.

Darlene is survived by son Mark (and Brenda) Deutz of Pequot Lakes, daughter Jane (and Greg) Janssen of Marshall, son Josh (and Barbie) Deutz of Cottonwood, and daughter Jan Kahn (and Rick) of Norwood Young America, her ten Grandchildren Parker (and Kelsey) Deutz, Kayla (and Aaron) Antony, Benjamin (and Amanda) Janssen, Nicholas Janssen, Nathan (and Traci) Janssen, Radley Heinis, Shane Heinis, and Justine Heinis, Maxwell Kahn and Abigail Kahn, and 24 Great Grandchildren. Survivors also include many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Darlene was preceded in death by Virgil Deutz, her loving husband of 65 years, parents Nicholas and Helen Sovell, siblings Francis Arzdorf, Max Sovell, Dorothy White, Eleanor DeAustin, Walter Sovell, Ted Sovell, and Audrey Paradis, and in-laws Irene Osborne, Mary Joan Eichler, and Jean Dirckx.

Memorials preferred to the Avera Granite Falls Care Center or Holy Redeemer Catholic School.
