The funeral service for Marvin Sabinske, 80, of Garvin, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018, at the Tracy Lutheran Church in Tracy. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the the church in Tracy. Interment will follow the service at the Tracy City Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by U.S. American Legion Post 173. Marvin Albert Sabinske was born on June 22, 1937, in Tracy, MN, to William and Esther (Gentz) Sabinske. He graduated from Tracy High School in 1955. On March 19, 1960, Marvin was united in marriage to Darlene Burda. Marvin served in the U.S. Army from 1960 - 1962 and was stationed in Schwabisch Hall, West Germany. The couple raised their family on the Sabinske family farm in Garvin, which had been in the family since 1901 - designating it as a Century farm - and was recognized as “State of the Art” for Dairy Farms. He has served as a 40-year board member (30 year Chairman) of the Southwest Minnesota Dairy Association. In addition, he was highly involved with 4-H for 23 years, including a 9-year stint in the club’s leadership while his daughters participated. Marvin also strove to raise awareness regarding hunter’s safety and wildlife by providing portions of his land to the Pheasants Forever Youth Mentored Program for their youth hunting adventures. Moreover, Marvin was an active member of Tracy Lutheran Church where he volunteered as an usher and served for six-years as Trustee. Marvin had a lifelong enjoyment of trains, receiving his first at the age of 10, and he also built collections of belt buckles, toy tractors, and hat pins. Marvin and Darlene were active members of the Currie Murray Mixers and Russell Slicks and Chicks, where they enjoyed Square Dancing the night away. Once a month, the couple also would work around the intense farming schedule and arrange a card game night where they would play 500 and spend time with many of their local farming friends. Marvin died on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. He is survived by his wife, Darlene, of Garvin, daughters Kimberly (and Chris) Bowman of Dell Rapids, SD, Kristin (and Karl) Koenig of Appleton, WI, Lisa (and Shannon) Laurence of Bartlesville, OK, grandchildren Angela, Katlyn, Gabriel, Alexandra, Devin, and Keely, great-grandchildren Araya, Atlas, and Maximus, sisters Arlene Bierbaum of New Ulm, Evelyn Johnson of Balaton and Shirley (and George) Nuy of Champlin, many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Darold, and nephew Scott Nuy. “Earth will miss a great caregiver of the land and animals. Heaven received a special person today.. You will be happy with Jesus among the fields of clover and overseeing a variety of animals. You are in our hearts, we miss you very much..” Memorials preferred to Pheasants Forever or the American Heart Association.
