Marjorie (Marge) Elaine Sorenson

Marjorie Elaine (Lund) was born on July 21, 1923, in Vining, MN, to Oscar and Minnie (Olson) Lund. She was baptized and confirmed in the Vining Lutheran Church. Marge attended school in Vining and Henning High School where she graduated with high honors in 1941. After high school, she attended the University of Chicago for two years and then transferred to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1945. Marge started her teaching career at the Madison High School. While there, she met her future husband, Kenneth Sorenson, whom she married on June 21, 1947. They moved to Marshall, where her two sons, Scott and Jay were born. Here she taught for another 17 years in the Marshall Middle School. Marge also taught English as a second language for several years after she retired. Marge was active in the community and her church. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, Past President and Treasurer of the Good Thought Study Club. She was also President of the American Association of University Women and the VFW Auxiliary. Marge helped to originate and chair the Lyon County Laubach Literary Society and helped tutor many adults. She was secretary of the Cancer Board and a long time Treasurer of the TOPS club. Marge was president of the Marshall Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered at First Lutheran Church and sang in the Senior Choir for many years. Marge served as President of the Ladies’ Group (WELCA) for three different terms and was the funeral lunch coordinator for 25 years. She also directed the children’s choir for nine years. Marge loved her home and gardening, and was a voracious reader of books. She enjoyed swimming and being a good neighbor. She loved her sons and her dear husband, Ken, who passed away in 2003. Marjorie was remarried in 2010 to Warren Saetre and they did a lot of travelling in the US. Her life was also enriched by her daughter-in-law Colleen and Warren’s children: David, Anne, Nancy, Linda, William and Steven. Marge died on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at the Sanford Healthcare Center in Sioux Falls, SD, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She is survived by her husband, Warren, of Marshall, son Scott (and Colleen) of Arden Hills, MN, step-children, numerous step-grandchildren, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ken and son Jay. Memorials preferred to First Lutheran Church of Marshall.
