Marie Nathlie Engels was born on October 16, 1917, to Livinus and Celesta (DeBaere) Engels in Grandview Township. She was baptized, received First Eucharist, and confrirmed at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. She attended St. Agnes Catholic School. On May 25, 1943, Marie was united in Marriage to Earl LaVoy at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. They farrmed in Vallers Township, west of Cottonwood, for 39 years. During this time she was active in the St. Clotilde Catholic Church and later became a charter parishioner of St. Maryâs Catholic Church in Cottonwood. In 1981 Earl and Marie retired and moved to Marshall. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Council of Catholic Women, Catholic Daughters of America, Weiner Memorial Auxiliary and the Senior Citizen Center. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, knitting, crocheting, playing cards, golf and volunteering for the Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by her loving husband Earl of 65 years, sister Bernice Tholen of Marshall, sister-in-law Ione Engels of Ivanhoe, and many nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Angeline, brothers: Louis, Vincent and Joseph.
