Margaret Jean (Knofczynski) Roberts was born on February 22, 1934, in her parents’ home outside Ivanhoe, MN, to Walter and Petranellia "Polly" (Bulowski) Knofczynski. She was the third of six children. She grew up in Ivanhoe and graduated from Ivanhoe High School. Margaret attended Mankato State for a teaching degree and taught in the Marshall public grade schools.

During her adventurous era, she and her roommate decided to see the world and toured many locations in the United States.  She ended up teaching in the San Diego public schools and eventually met John "Bob" Roberts and was married in 1970. They had one son, James, and were together for over 40 blissful years until Bob's passing in 2013.

A few years after their son was born the couple moved to Marshall, and Margaret again took up teaching at St. Eloi's Catholic school in Ghent, MN.  Margaret was very active and creative. She painted landscapes, sewed, stitched, and built wood wishing wells and intricate Christmas decorations. She was active in the church choir and Catholic Daughters. Margaret loved to garden and keep her pets entertained. She was a master of the Sudoku puzzles and the Sunday New York Times crossword. Margaret also enjoyed volunteering at the hospital and Food Shelf.

Margaret passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.  She is survived by son James of East Bethel MN, brother Richard and sister Mary (Bradley).  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brothers Clayton, Gordon and Daniel.
