Margaret Ruth Hassing Doyscher

Margaret Ruth (Hassing) Doyscher was born on January 7, 1930, in Middletown Township, rural Jackson, MN, to George and Mary (Petrich) Hassing. She grew up in Jackson, attended eight years of country school, then the Jackson Public High School where she graduated in 1947. Margaret then attended Business School in Mankato. In 1951, she was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Doyscher at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Jackson. To this union were born sons Robert, Thomas, Mark, Daniel and Patrick and daughters Ann and Mary. In 1962, the family moved to Marshall where Dick worked as a Cattle Buyer. Margaret worked as a Teacher’s Aide at the Marshall Middle School and later obtained her Real Estate License. She also worked for S.O.S. as a typist for a time. In 1987, Margaret and Dick moved back to Jackson where they purchased the Dairy Queen. Margaret worked full time as owner/operator of the store for seven years. Richard died in 1993. In 2015, Margaret moved to Hill Street Place in Marshall. She enjoyed being at the lake, playing Rummikub and Cribbage with friends and grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, crafting, baking, doing the daily crossword puzzle in the Star Tribune, talking politics and keeping up with her great grandchildren on Facebook. Margaret will be remembered for keeping a very welcoming home. She attended countless baseball, basketball and football games both played and coached by her children. When she wasn’t cheering from the bleachers, she was typically home baking chocolate chip cookies or other tremendous treats that were enjoyed by her family and many friends. In her later years, she enjoyed wintering in Alamo, TX, with her friend Ken McNab who also accompanied her on many RV trips and other travels throughout the United States. Margaret died on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall. She is survived by her children Robert (and Lia) of Lake City, Thomas (and Cindy) of Waconia, Mark (and Becky) of Woodbury, Daniel (and Rhonda) of Sioux Falls, SD, Patrick (and Charon) of Round Lake, Ann Doyscher-Domres (and Wade) of Sartell and Mary (and Justin Nissen) of New Auburn, 15 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard and siblings George Hassing and Marie Hassing Sullivan. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Jackson Cemetery Association: 300 Highway 71 South in Jackson, MN 56143.

Your Mom was such a wonderful person; always so happy and welcoming. I remember being a little kid and heading to Jackson for your parents wedding only to have to turn around because of a blizzard! I remember the little boys as I was growing up. I wish I could have got to know Ann and Mary. My Mom and Dad appreciated Margaret and Dick's visits to them when they moved off the farm and into Montevideo. I was glad to reconnect with your Mom and have lunch with her and Ken in Texas and also when she invited Rog and Gerry and myself to lunch in Jackson. It gave us a chance to visit our grandparents, etc. graves. (The Coryell's are big on visiting grave sites). My deepest sympathy on the loss of your Mom. She was a fine woman.

Dear Doyscher family- Our sympathies to you at the death of your mom. We would like to honor Margaret through a donation to the Marshall Tiger Foundation. We remember that Margaret spent many hours in the bleachers supporting various Tiger activities! We are praying for a beautiful service today to honor her and support you. Regretfully, we will not be in attendance, but we will be sending prayers for peace and many happy memories. With love- Tom & Joni (Holm) Jacobson

Dear Doyscher cousins, Your mom's passing leaves a hole in the heart; she was such a wonderful woman to know. Unfortunately, Anita and I will not be coming after all to the services. (I think the card I sent too late to your mom tells the story of my husband Dan's recent health issues.) I need to be here to take care of his infusion. I know we'll be missing many "Margaret" stories of family events during your Tuesday evening service. There will be laughter and tears. I treasure the times we had to visit with each other, stay with each other and share our Hassing heritage. I can't remember if she was the oldest Hassing cousin but I was the youngest. However, the 20 years of age difference didn't matter; we enjoyed each other! Your mom enjoyed people and life to the fullest! May your mom now rest in peace with the Lord. Sincerely, Rosemary (Rosi) and Dan Heins

With deepest sympathy to the family of my first cousin, Margaret Doyscher.

To my Cousin Margaret's Children: I will always cherish all my memories of your Mother, and especially her laughter that was so similar to her Mother's, my Aunt Mary, my Mother's only sister whom she loved so dearly. I loved being around them and will always remember the sound of their joy. My sympathy to all the family as you cope with the loss of such a beautiful and precious Mother. Though distance kept us apart, I will hold her forever close in my heart.
