Margaret Clara Callens

Margaret Clara Callens was born December 18, 1922 to Adam and Bernice (Sik) Guza, at their home in Marble Township, near Canby, MN. She entered into the loving arms of our Lord on January 5, 2018 at the age of 95 in Avera Morningside Heights Care Center, Marshall, MN. Margaret attended a one-room school in her elementary years and then attended the Sisters of St. John Cantius Boarding School in Wilno, MN. In her early adult life Margaret worked as a waitress and helped out on her parents' family farm. Margaret furthered her education through a correspondence course from the Chicago School of Nursing where she earned her Practical Nurse degree. She utilized these skills frequently in the care of her family. Margaret and Albert Callens were united in marriage on June 7, 1949 at St. John Cantius Church, Wilno, MN. They began their married life in Canby, MN. In 1953 they moved to a farm Southwest of Taunton, MN where they raised their 9 children. Margaret was gifted with many talents including woodworking, sewing, and playing accordion and guitar. She enjoyed crocheting doilies, bedspreads and other items to sell and give away. Margaret was well-known for her exceptional baking skills which many people looked forward to each holiday. One of her biggest enjoyments was preparing wonderful meals for family and friends and serving them her homemade beer and wine. Later in life, she embarked on a long career working at Schott Corp. in Minneota, MN until the age of 75. Margaret greatly enjoyed the company of the friends she made at Schott's. Margaret is survived by her children, George (Tu) Callens of Mankato, MN, Virginia Gregg of Fargo, ND, Frank Callens of Clarkfield, MN, Remi (Anne) Callens of Vineland, NJ, Rick (Pat) Callens of Prairie Rose, ND, Rita (Tim) Hagstrom of Fargo, ND, Mary (Kerry) Thompson of Cottonwood, MN, Vicki (Dave) Spofford of Fargo, ND, and Monica (Rick) Lynghaug of White Bear, MN. She is also survived by 31 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her sister, Stella Johnson, Mankato, MN; sister-in-law Charlene Callens of Minneota, MN; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, two infant angels, Philip and Anastacie, her siblings and their spouses Harry (Marie) Guza, Max (Ilene) Guza, John Guza, Benny Guza, Stanley (Mae) Guza, and in-laws Clifford Johnson, Antone Callens, Micheal Callens, and Agnes (John) Citrowske. Margaret was a wonderful wife and mother and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

I am sorry for your loss. Condolences to you and your family. I look forward to the time when "death is swallowed up forever." (1 Corinthians 15:54) When one of my family members passed away, I looked to my family for comfort, but most importantly, I received comfort from God's Word the Bible. Jesus likened death to sleeping. This is encouraging because people can be awakened from sleep. The Bible gives us hope of a resurrection In Revelation 21:4, God promises, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." I look forward to that time and it helps me get by. I hope it is encouraging to you too.
