Margaret (Peg) Mary Boerboom

d. July 19, 2016

Margaret (Peg) Mary Boerboom was born on December 24, 1921 in Westerheim Township, Minnesota to Leo and Christine (VanUden) Hennen. She grew up on her parent’s farm between Ghent and Minneota. She was baptized, received First Communion, and was confirmed at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Peg graduated from Minneota High School in 1939. On February 7, 1945 Peg married Andrew Boerboom at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Peg and Andrew farmed near Cottonwood for 32 years moving into town in 1988. In 2013 she moved to Boulder Estates in Marshall. Peg was a gentle woman with a quick sense of humor. She worked hard on the farm raising 7 children, taking care of a large garden, canning and freezing what was produced in the garden, raising chickens for eggs to sell and to butcher, and supporting the farm operations. Peg would have 12 loaves of bread rising before she called her children to breakfast! Peg enjoyed playing cards, baking, traveling with Andrew to Hawaii, Europe, and multiple places in the United States, and fishing with Andrew and their friends and family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Peg and Andy created many wonderful memories for their children and grandchildren with annual family vacations, especially spending a week together each year at a cabin on a lake. Peg was active in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Alter Guild Society in Cottonwood, 4-H, PTA and volunteering at the Avera Marshall Auxiliary Gift shop and Thrift Shop. Peg and Andy received the Bishops Medal of Service. Peg and Andy hosted Boji Sison, an exchange student from the Philippines. Boji kept in touch with Peg and Andy, calling Peg “Mommy Peggy” until his death in 1971. Peg died on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Avera Morningside Heights Transition Center following a stroke. Peg is survived by her children Charlotte (Juhl) Stavnes of Lamberton, Barbara (Donald) Flolo of Glenwood, Steven (Sandy) Boerboom of Cottonwood, Rebecca (Terry) Timm of Cottonwood, Marvin Boerboom of Alexandria, Dean (Jeanette) Boerboom of Cottonwood, and Terrence (Jane) Boerboom of Chisago City, 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Clarice Versaevel of Marshall and Rosella Hennen of Minneota. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Andrew, grandson Travis Boerboom, two brothers, Leo and Edward Hennen; five sisters, Ann Traen, Dora Kesteloot, Gert Sanders, Ida Wyffels and Josephine Deveraux and several sister and brother-in-laws. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Cottonwood, Minnesota, Alzheimer’s Association, or Hospice. Blessed Be Her Memory
