Lynette (Lynn) Yost Sandro

Lynn died Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, after an inspirational battle with cancer, outliving her terminal diagnosis by 11 years. She was born a twin Dec. 20, 1940, in Lac qui Parle Village to Arlan and Verna (Jacobson) Siverhus. She attended Lac qui Parle elementary school. Her father died in 1949, and her mother married Darold Vierhuf of Hendricks in 1951 and the family relocated to Hendricks. Lynn attended Dr. Martin Luther High School in New Ulm for 1-1/2 years, and graduated from Hendricks High School in 1958. She then worked at South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D. She and Dale Yost were married Oct. 3, 1959. They lived in Watertown, S.D., Verdi, and moved to Minneota in 1966. Lynn worked for the Schott Corp. in Marshall and Minneota for six years, and she worked at the Minneota Public Schools for 26 years, retiring in 2005 when she received her cancer diagnosis. She was a familiar presence at the school for years, and greeted countless numbers of students almost every day in the lunch line. Dale died in 2002, and Lynn married Orlan Sandro on Nov. 5, 2005. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. She was an accomplished seamstress. She helped with her sister Dianne’s Mad Hatter business. She and colleague Loralee Miller often teamed up to perform comedy skits as “Lena and Wanda." She enjoyed reading, baking, traveling, home decorating, listening to music. She instilled in her children the joy and importance of reading and lifelong learning. She was a devoted caretaker to her husband Dale in his latter stages of diabetes and to her mother and step-father. She was proud of her family and enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her courteousness, kindness and the admirable will to live she displayed in the face of several forms of cancer. Survivors include her husband Orlan Sandro of Hendricks; children Dana (and Rae) Yost of Morris, Allyson (and Mike) Breyfogle of Taunton, Ryan Yost of Minneota, Darin (and Deb) Yost of Minneota, and Angela (and Greg) Meyer of Taunton; grandchildren Luke, Nicholas, Diane, Kalley, Riley, Casey, Megan, Madyson, McKenna, Analisa, Alaire, Adiah, Audra, Erin and Anna; four great-grandchildren; brother Ardell (and Sue) Siverhus of Neptune City, N.J., twin brother Leon (and Diane) Siverhus of Stillwater; and sister Dianne (and Wallace) Enga of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Orlan’s children, Darice (and Keith) Huber of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Brian (and Pam) Sandro of Harrisburg, S.D., and Orlan's grandchildren Ryan, Larissa, Taya, and Molly; and two great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Ronald Cech of Waukesha, Wis.; and many relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, first husband Dale, sister Loretta Cech, brother Douglas Siverhus, mother- and step-father-in-law Donald and Vivetta Swenstad, and brother-in-law James Jackson.
