Leo Frank Demuth was born on May 4, 1919, in Russell, to Paul and Mary Louise (Suprenaut) Demuth. He grew up on the family farm near Russell. Leo enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1942 – 1945. From 1943 – 1944, he drove truck while building the Alaskan Highway in Canada. On June 28, 1941, he was united in marriage to Iris Rokeh. Leo worked for Swift Manufacturing for a time before moving to a farm near Lynd where he farmed until his retirement in 1983. He continued living on the farm until he and Iris moved to Marshall in 2005. Shortly after Iris’ death, Leo moved to the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton. He enjoyed gardening and playing cards. He was a member of the U.S. American Legion Post of Russell. After a brief illness, Leo died on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. He is survived by his children Phyllis Skatrud of Laporte, MN, Josie (and Mel) Besse of Marshall, Linda (and Ron)Wilson of Red Wing, MN, Mark Demuth of Lynd, Rita (and Bruce) Buchert of Russell, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, sisters Elsie (and Jack) Andrascho and Agnus (and Sterling) Polyak of the Twin Cities, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son-in-law Ted, brothers Adolph, Edmund, John, Frances, Joseph and Emil.
