Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place at St. John Cantius Catholic Cemetery in Wilno.
Kathryn Mary “Kate” Hauschild was born on December 3, 1927, to Frank and Martha (Louwagie) Welu in Marshall, MN. She was the oldest of seven children and shared a special bond with her twin sister, Kathleen.
She grew up on a farm near Marshall where she attended Country School District 75 and graduated through the 8th grade in 1941. At a young age, she worked at Reese’s Dairy Store in Marshall.
On June 3, 1952, she was united in marriage to LeRoy Hauschild. They were blessed with five children of which she endured the loss of her second child at just five days old. Together, they raised their family near Ivanhoe where they were partners in their farming operation for many years.
Kate was a leader of the International Affairs in Wilno in 1970. She was a member of the Alter & Rosary Society of St. John Cantius and taught religion classes in Wilno for seven years.
Kate was a woman who understood her own strength, worth and values. She later went on to get her GED and graduated in 1982 from Granite Falls. In 1987, she moved to Marshall where she began her career at JC Penney Co. for eight years where she received the We-Care Award and Customer Service Award.
Throughout Kate’s life, she met every challenge with unwavering determination, rising above obstacles with steady courage. She stood strong on her own, yet her heart was endlessly generous, offering warmth and care to her children, grandchildren, and the Catholic Church. She was a woman of unwavering faith as the Rosary could be heard every day at her house. She was devoted to her family and loved them all dearly – always putting others’ needs before her own. She also had a wonderful sense of humor that she carried up until her last days.
Kate enjoyed dancing, gardening and flowering, traveling, collecting various keepsakes, hosting her family for any occasion, baking homemade pies and endless card games with friends and family.
