Kathleen Louise (Polfliet) Gawarecki was born on May 25, 1943, in Marshall, to Cyriel and Anna (Vandendries) Polfliet. She grew up and attended school in Ghent. Kathleen was united in marriage to Larry Haag. To this union were born Cindy, Larry, and Rodney. After Larryâs death, she was later united in marriage to LeRoy Vogt. To this union were born Randy, Mike and Loren. Kathleen was later married to Louie Gawarecki. In addition to raising her children, Kathleen worked at the Marshall Hospital and later for Prairie 5 in Redwood Falls. She enjoyed cooking, baking and going to car races. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. She was also a country and Christian music fan. Her favorite song was âYou are my Sunshine.â After living most of her life in Ghent, she lived in assisted living in Madison and Minneota. For the last five years, she lived at the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby. Some of her favorite expressions included âI feel like a million bucks,â âI love you to the moon and back,â and âIâm praying for you all.â She will be fondly remembered for her laughter, smile, and silly jokes. Kathy was very proud of her family, children and grandchildren as they meant the world to her. She was also very proud of her 39 years sobriety.
Kathleen died on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She is survived by her children Larry Haag of Watertown, SD, Rodney Haag of Ft. Smith, AK, Randy Vogt of Marshall, Mike Vogt of Willmar, Loren Vogt of Alexandria, 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, her mother Anna Polfliet of Canby, siblings Barb (and Jans) Kor of Madison Lake, MN, Pauline (and Duwayne) Hoffman of Canby, Teri (and Don) Krumwiede of Benson, Mary (and Jerry) DeSmet of Lake Hendricks, Martha (and Jim) Melrose of Porter, Margaret (and Keith) Kindelberger of Ortonville, Michael (and Sandy) Polfliet of Ghent, son-in-law Doug Citrowske of New Ulm, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Cyriel Polfliet, daughter Cindy Citrowske, brother Joe Polfliet and infant siblings Mary and Paul, husbands Larry Haag and Louie Gawarecki.
