Mass of Christian Burial for Josephine Fier, 94, of Minneota will be at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, in Taunton. Visitation will be Monday, May 19, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Minneota. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, May 19, 2008, one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Taunton. Josephine died on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Avera Regional Medical Center in Marshall. Josephine Lucille Gawerecki was born on March 14, 1914, to Stanley and Cecilia (Kopolcznski) Gawerecki in Taunton, Minnesota. She was baptized at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton and received Holy Communion and Confirmation at St. John’s Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno, Minnesota. She also attended the Wilno Catholic School and a country school. On May 3, 1939 Josephine was married to Walter W Fier at Sts. John’s Cantius Catholic Church. They farmed near Taunton. They had one daughter, Agnes (Mrs Henry Ratajczak). Walter passed away October 14, 1973. Josephine loved gardening, knitting, sewing, making quilts, crocheting, playing cards, bingo and socializing with people. Josie was a member of St. Theresa Golden Age Club at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Josephine and her mother-in-law, Veronica Fier, moved to Taunton in 1976. Veronica passed away on December 5, 1985. In 1999 Josephine moved into the Madison Apartments in Minneota. Josephine is survived by her daughter, Agnes (Hank) Ratajczak of Lake Park, one grandson, Curtis (Kelly) Lynn of Champlin and one granddaughter, Kelley Jo (Dan) Lenertz of Sabin. She is also survived by one great granddaughter, Ashley Ratajczak and three great grandsons; Jacob and Joshua Lenertz and Christopher Ratajczak, one brother-in-law, Leo Fier, three sister-in-laws: Mary Fier, Clara Kopitski and Sophie Gawerecki and lots of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Magdeline Ratajczak, infant sisters Bernice and Amelia and four brothers; Frank, Leo, Harry and Edward and one grandchild, Tamara Jo Ratajczak.
