Visitation: 4:00PM to 8:00PM Thursday January 10, 2008 with a prayer service at 7:00PM at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy.
Service: 1:00PM Friday January 11, 2008 at the Tracy Lutheran Church. Visitation continues for one hour prior to the service.
John Lester Moon was born March 13, 1912 to Frank and Rozella (Bowers) Moon on a farm near Hardwick, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. As a young boy his family moved to the Tracy and Amiret, MN area and he attended country school. Later John attended the University of Minnesota Agricultural College in St. Paul, MN before returning to the family farm.
On May 1, 1940 John married Pearl Haugen in Walnut Grove, MN at the Lutheran parsonage. They made their home on the Moon home farm near Amiret until 1960 when they purchased their own farm and moved closer to Tracy. There they farmed until Johnâs retirement in 1989 and they moved into Tracy.
John was a farmer his whole life and he enjoyed staying active. He was a member of the Tracy Lutheran Church and served as a Trustee. He was also an active member of the Tracy Lions Club for twenty seven years and recorded perfect attendance during his entire membership. He also served a term as Club Director and as Lion Tamer, in charge of the clubâs property. In the past John also enjoyed Horseshoe League, fishing, playing pool at the Tracy Senior Center and as part of several card clubs with his wife.
On January 8, 2008 John died at the Sanford-Sioux Valley Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 95.
John is survived by his wife, Pearl Moon of Tracy, MN; one son, John (Patty Hahn) Moon of Montevideo, MN; one daughter, Christine (Dennis) Dostal of Loveland, CO; five grandchildren, Jason Kirk, Jacqueline Peters, Andrew Moon, Jenece Diedrich and John âJTâ Moon III; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Doris (Norman) Cote of Slayton, MN, Ardis Haugen of Tracy, MN and Grace Haugen of Slayton, MN; one brother-in-law, Lindy (Clarice) Haugen of Currie, MN; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His three sisters, nine brothers, three brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law preceded him in death.
