John was born on July 9, 1925 in Marshall MN, to Homer and Mary (Smith) Chandler. He passed away on Wednesday June 3, 2015 at Windcliff Senior Care in Lake City MN, where he had resided since July 2013.
John graduated from Marshall High School in 1942. He married Jean Buysse on April 30, 1949 in Green Valley, MN. They had 4 children. John served proudly in the Navy, then returned to Marshall to continue farming. He drove semi until his retirement in 1990. John and Jean would winter in Arizona. He was a life long member of Holy Redeemer Church in Marshall. He enjoyed working outside on his farm, tending to trees, having a garden and visiting with friends.
While at Windcliff, he was one of their favorites. He would play cards, sit on the porch in a sun beam, and tease the staff on a regular basis, and even a little dancing. He was well taken care of and was a kind, helpful person to others there. He was always ready to go for a ride, out for lunch, or a visit to one of his childrenâs homes. He made the holidays special.
Survivors include Charles, of Hager City, WI, Bruce, of Stockholm, WI, Jeanine Schweer, of Marshall and Jamie (Rick) of Zumbrota, MN, special Sisters in law Janet Lindsey of Marshall, and Ruth Mae Post of Cottonwood, seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean, parents Homer and Mary Chandler, siblings Gertrude Owen, Homer, Mary Jastram, Bernice Fuhrmann, Loretta Chandler, daughter in law Linda Chandler, and one grandchild.
