The funeral service for Joan Diane Trautman, 74, of Marshall, will be held on Wednesday, December 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. A public visitation will begin one hour prior to the funeral service. Future interment will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Verdi, MN, on a date to be determined.
Joan Diane Trautman was born on April 24, 1948, in Tyler, MN, to Harvey and Arlene (Bebeness) Trautman. At the age of 1, Joan was taken to a child specialist in Sioux Falls and was diagnosed with a developmental delay. After her mother died in 1956 Joan was placed under State guardianship and went to live at Bethesda Lutheran Home until 1978.
After leaving Bethesda Lutheran Home Joan lived in a REM home in Tyler, MN, and Marshall, MN. She then went into foster care from 1986 to 1989. Joan then got herself an apartment and lived on her own until 1997 when she moved into an HSI home in Marshall, MN.
Joan enjoyed her time living at the HSI home and was grateful for the caregivers who looked after her. Joan had a passion for creating art and had fun playing games on her iPad. She appreciated being pampered, taking every opportunity possible to get her hair and nails done. Joan loved to travel and took many trips throughout her life. Notable vacations include trips to Nashville, Branson, and many other places. She also valued her alone time and could often be found enjoying the solitude of her room. Joan was a devout Christian regularly attending services at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Marshall, MN.
Joan died on December 18, 2022, at Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall.
Joan is survived by her sister Beverly (Gary) Anderson of Brookings SD, neice Nichole Wiebr, great nephews Kelton Wiebr, Leland Wiebr, Barry and Joyce Trautman in Texas, and all of her roommates and caretakers at HSI. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and parents Harvey and Arlene (Bebeness) Trautman.
