Joan Kathryn Johnson was born on October 21, 1948, in Tracy, MN, to Elmer and Neva (Culp) Mielke. She grew up in Tracy and graduated from Tracy High School. She had a strong family upbringing where she developed unconditional love and strength. As a mother, Joan “Joni” was a true cornerstone of the family. She devoted her life to her two children: Shannon and Michelle, whom she loved with unwavering devotion.

Some of Joni’s greatest joys were gardening, days at the beach, her sister weekends and holiday gatherings. She found great solace and happiness decorating every room in her home for the holidays or preparing the holiday meal. She was most fond of time spent with her growing family.

Joan died on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Prairie Home Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Cottonwood, MN. She is survived by her children Shannon Sammons and Michelle (Tom) Marotzke; grandchildren Ashley Weedman (Bobby Wildey), Miranda Sammons, Steven Marotzke, Matthew Marotzke, Nickolas (Emma) Marotzke and Jayson Marotzke; great-grandchildren Makayah, Daulton, Dakotah, Asher, Miyah Wildey; Jayce, Jayden, Jaymez Guimond; sister Janet Sabinske, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Dennis Johnson, parents Elmer and Neva Mielke, brother David Mielke, parents-in-law Dale Sr. and Adeline Johnson, brother-in-law James Sabinske.

Rest in peace, dear Joni, your memory will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
