Mass of Christian Burial for Joan Bot, 74, of Ghent, will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall.  Visitation will be Friday, February 2, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a rosary at 5:00 and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall.   Visitation will continue Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow the service at St. Eloi Catholic Cemetery in Ghent.

Joan Lynn Bot was born on July 19, 1949, in Marshall, to Joseph and Leona (Polejewski) Van den Berghe.  She attended St. Eloi Catholic School in Ghent and graduated from Central Catholic High School in Marshall.  Joan obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology/Anthropology at Southwest State College in Marshall.  Joan worked as a Licensed Social Worker for Lyon County for five years.  On December 14, 1974, she was united in marriage to Francis Bot at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent.  The couple lived in Ghent (next door to where Joan grew up) until moving to their current residence six miles southwest of Ghent in 1980.  Joan was a woman of many talents.  She was passionate about children.  She and Fran fostered many children and adopted four.  She loved gardening and tending to her greenhouse.   She was also passionate about animals, especially the family dogs.  She enjoyed reading, fishing, and spending time at the family cabin on Swan Lake.

Joan died on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, after a series of health issues.  She is survived by her husband Fran Bot of Ghent, children Ryan (Susan) Bot of Farmington, Erin Bot of Marshall, Ellen (A.J.) Pasha of Minnetonka, grandchildren Mason, Roselyn and Declan Bot and step-grandson Amari Pasha; siblings Bruce (Joyce) Van den Berghe and Sharon (Rob) Snorek; in-laws Arnold Bot and Alice Bot; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and son Jordan.
