A private family service will be held for Janet Slagel, 85, of Marshall.
Janet (Skorpil) Slagel was born on October 30, 1936, in Fairview, MT, daughter of Alice and Raymond Skorpil. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith, which she practiced throughout her life. Jan graduated from high school in Fairview, MT in 1953, and the following year attended business college in Billings, MT. Her first job following her studies was working for the Ford Motor Company in Sidney, MT. Jan did a considerable amount of moving and relocating before eventually settling in Marshall, MN in 1967. She was blessed with four children: Debbie, Rick, Mike and Shari. Jan was incredibly hard working and dedicated to raising her family. She worked for a number of years at Haas Bakery in downtown Marshall. However the majority of her working life was that of an invaluable cashier and bookkeeper in the pharmacy of Sward Kemp.
Jan loved her Marshall home of more than 45 years where she would spend countless hours in her garden growing and nurturing her flowers and plants. The neighborhood always looked forward to her beautiful tulips in the Spring of each year. She was also an avid reader, with a staggering amount of books read throughout the course of her life. Jan led a quiet life where spending time with her family was her true love and joy. The selfless role, as a mother and father, in her children’s lives was her true legacy. She felt her greatest purpose in life was to nurture, support and guide them to a life of peace and happiness. Jan was also a very involved grandma that was adored by her grandchildren. From the football field and basketball court, to dance competitions and school concerts she never missed an event. The treasured weekend sleepovers at Grandma’s (with her specialty of mac ‘n cheese on bread) are moments that will never be forgotten. Janet was devoted to her family – this priority never wavering throughout her life.
Prairie Home Hospice–Lockwood House was her final home in Marshall. She peacefully passed away on August 18th, 2022 at the age of 85 surrounded by her loving family. Janet is survived by her children Rick (Patti) Slagel, Mike (Teresa) Slagel, Shari (Razmi Patel) Slagel, and son-in-law Steve (Debbie) Larson, brother Dennis Skorpil, 6 grandchildren: Tristan Larson, Brittany Larson, Heather (Dalton) Salfer, Tawnni (Caleb) Salfer, Braedy Slagel, Kai Patel, and great-grandchildren Amelia (Heather) Salfer and expected arrival of baby (Tawnni) Salfer.
