Hulda Elizabeth Van Moorlehem was born on May 18, 1931, in Vallers Township, Lyon County, MN to Herman and Ella (Halverson) Nelson. She grew up living in and around Minneota and graduated from Minneota Public School after completing the tenth grade. On May 7, 1949, she was united in marriage to Howard Van Moorlehem at St. Edwardâs Catholic Church in Minneota. The union resulted in three children. The couple farmed and raised their family North of Minneota, until they moved to town in 1993. Ebo took great pride in their home in town and enjoyed sharing it with visitors. Family was important to Ebo and she relished the role of being a grandmother, not only to her own grandchildren, but to any child in her presence. Ebo enjoyed spending her time cooking, baking, crocheting, gardening, playing cards, and visiting. She will forever be remembered for her big smile, lefse, donuts, pies, afghans, and great sense of humor.
Ebo died unexpectedly on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. She is survived by her children Donna (Doug) Jelen of Marshall, Janet Van Moorlehem of Marshall, and Roger (Bonnie) Van Moorlehem of Minneota; grandchildren Jon Van Moorlehem (friend Angela) of Minneota and Sara Van Moorlehem-Scott (Kurt) of Oakland, CA; and great-grandson Isaiah Scott. She is also survived by her brother Robert (Linette) Nelson, in-laws Art Van Moorlehem and Elmer (Betty) Van Moorlehem, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard, and three sisters LaVerna Nelson, LaVerna Johnson, and Thelma Warnke and brother Gordon Nelson.
