Henry “Butch” Joseph Polman, son of Henry and Julia Polman, was born August 20, 1938, in Marshall, Minnesota. He entered eternal life at Prairie Home Hospice McLaughlin House in Marshall on November 5, 2021. He was 83 years old.

Butch, the oldest son in a family with 11 children, grew up with a passion for farming. Upon his 12th grade graduation from Morris Ag School, he joined the Army National Guard. Shortly afterward, he began farming with his parents until 1969. He then drove for Floyd Wild Trucking, before settling into a 34 year career as a refrigeration mechanic with the Schwan Food Company. His calloused and greased-stained hands were proof of his dedication and loyal craft until his retirement commenced on March 18, 2005.

On November 28, 1970, he was united in marriage to his sweetheart Jeannie Crouse at Holy Redeemer Church in Marshall. They were parents to two daughters and a son: Stacy, Sherry, and Scott. Their family grew and was blessed with eight grandchildren. Being called Grandpa was his greatest joy.

When he was not being called to grandpa duties, Butch spent time traveling with Jeannie, having coffee at Hardee’s with friends, and taking long walks for exercise, reflection and surveillance of Marshall happenings. He enjoyed a good meal, which was almost always a cheeseburger and French fries, finished with ice cream. He was fond of his red pick-up truck, which gave him freedom to run errands to Patzer’s Hardware Store, daily Mass, and an occasional escape to the countryside where he examined the season’s crops.

Throughout his retirement, Butch continued to work with his hands. Whether in his woodshop or in his garage, he was always tinkering or planning his next activity. He was a man of few words, and very persistent, habitual, and tenacious in spirit. He was an inspiration to his family and his legacy of character will be missed by all. May he rest in God’s peace.

He is survived by his wife Norma “Jeannie” Polman; daughters Stacy Enderson (Dan Fosvick) and Sherry (Todd) Quist; son Scott (Jennifer) Polman; son-in-law Paul Enderson; grandchildren Makenzie Enderson, Allyson Quist, Olivia Enderson, Henry Polman III, Austin Quist, Harrison Polman, and Ayla Quist; siblings Irma Vroman, Judy VanDeWiele, JoAnn McChesney, Jere Polman, Steven (Ginger) Polman, Mike (fiancée Bonnie Huffman) Polman, and Jeffery (Nancy) Polman; sisters-in-law Judy (Jeff) Greenwood, Barb (Rod) Sundheim; brother-in-law Jim Leach; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents Henry and Julia Polman; in-laws Fred and Lorraine Crouse; grandson Hudson Polman; sisters Grace Kerkvliet and Joyce Leach; brother Joseph Polman; sister-in-law Patricia Polman; brothers-in-law Rich Kerkvliet, Donald Vroman, Jerry McChesney, and Maurice VanDeWiele.
