Harold C. Peterson

d. August 15, 2016

Harold Charles Peterson was born June 16, 1926 to Holden and Mae (White) Peterson at Iona, MN. He went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 15, 2016. He had been a resident at the Morningside Heights Care Facility Transitions Unit following a stroke. At his side were his daughter, Sharon, and son-in-law, Mike. Sharon was able to hold his hand until the Lord took his hand and led him home. He was given such outstanding care in these many weeks by this amazing team and we are very grateful. He attended school in Murray and Lyon counties and graduated from Russell High School. In 1945 he entered the army taking his training at Fort Sill, OK. He trained as a surveyor and forward observer for heavy artillery. He was sent to the island of Leyte in the Philippines and later transferred to Manila for the rest of his tour overseas. He married his one and only sweetheart Leona Rode on March 21, 1948. Leona went to be with the Lord on November 30, 2010. They had 2 special daughters, Diane (Marty) Moore and Sharon (Mike) Hulsizer. They farmed near Russell and then later moved to a farm in Murray County. They moved to Marshall where he was employed at Schwans Beverage Plant for 16 years as plant maintenance worker. He retired in 1989. Harold loved spending time with his family and church family. The couple enjoyed planning, building, and finishing homes along with doing landscape work. He loved woodworking and doing many wood crafts. Harold loved working in the garden and anything outside. He especially loved his flowers. He also loved going to auctions. He was very active at his church, First Baptist Church, and his favorite Bible verse is I John 1:9. He is survived by his daughter Sharon (Mike) Hulsizer, son-in-law Marty Moore, granddaughters Joyce Moore of Marshall and Diane Moore of Beardsley, MN, great-grandchildren Matrim, Alexandra, and Alexandria, brother Don (Bev) Peterson of Mankato, and sister Lucy Clifton of Louisburg, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Leona, daughter Diane in 2013, and brother Lawrence.
