Grace Viola (Brue) Huso was born to parents Bennie and Ella (Hoff) Brue on March 16, 1917, near Lynd, MN. With birth imminent, and a blizzard raging, Bennie bridled up the horses and wagon, to get a midwife â but the horses refused to leave the yard. Bennie had been told what do to by his mother in the event of a birth. The young father returned to his young wife, delivered a baby girl, and named her Grace. She was the second oldest of eleven children. Grace went to various schools in Lyon and Lincoln County, graduating from eighth grade on July 8, 1932, at Ivanhoe, achieving the highest score in English in Lincoln County. When not helping with the growing family at home, she worked as a hired girl for various families in the area.
Grace married John Huso on April 8, 1939. They lived all their lives on the original Huso homestead near Minneota. The couple had three children: Doretta (Huso) Addison, Harlan Huso and Shirley (Huso) Kirk.
Grace was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church and Nordland Social Club. She enjoyed community events in Minneota, especially of a historical nature. She enjoyed the Senior Center and playing 500 with her friends. She also enjoyed natureâs beauty â gardening, feeding birds and starting flower beds. Grace loved to entertain and visit with family, friends and neighbors. She loved music and was an avid reader. When retirement gave her leisure, she expressed herself in the poems she wrote. As Johnâs health declined due to Parkinsonâs disease, Grace was his primary and constant caregiver. Always putting family first, she was their strength and joy; a caring and loving wife, a good mother, a great sister, a fantastic grandmother and an amazing great-grandmother. She was a loyal and understanding friend to many.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Ella and Bennie Brue, her husband, John Huso, sisters Elva Smith Myhre and Eunice Brue; five brothers: Clifford Brue, Marlen Brue, Arvie Brue, Eugene Brue and Donald Brue. She is survived by her children Doretta Addison of Minneota, Shirley Kirk of Minneota, Harlan (and Sharon) Huso of Cloquet, grandsons Jordy (and Heidi) Kirk of Grand Marais and David (and Leah) Huso of Grand Rapids, MN, great-granddaughters: Jordyn Kirk of Duluth, Jaymie Kirk of Grand Marais, Lauren Huso and Cydney Huso of Grand Rapids, three sisters: Arlene Friedrichs of Tyler, Doris Kragh of Tyler, Julia ( Tom) Bonneville of Windom, two sisters-in-law: Mary Brue of Minneapolis, Lois Brue of Minneapolis and many nieces, nephews and friends.
