Gene David Wolner was born to Oliver and Ruth (Mossengren) Wolner on Oct 28,193, at home in rural Butterfield, MN. He was baptized at Kansas Lake Church in Butterfield, MN. Gene attended a rural school district 12 named The Wolner School near Butterfield (for most of the children were Wolners). As a young man, he worked at the micrometer place in St. James, MN, and also helped his brother, James, build grain silos around MN & Iowa area. Later, he became an Electrolux Vacuum salesman. He so believed in the quality of this product that he excelled, winning top salesman of the year many times. He had many talents he enjoyed repairing his own cars and remodeling his home so he was a âjack of all tradesâ. He also loved to go out camping and fishing. On April 20, 1951, he was united in to marriage to Donna Mae Morgan at Christ United Presbyterian church in Marshall, MN. They lived for a few years in St. James, MN. After 3 children were born, they moved to Winnebago where their last child son was born. They moved on to Sleepy Eye, MN for a number of years before settling in Marshall. Gene retired from selling vacuums but still repaired them for people in his own home which he enjoyed doing.
Gene died on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the Sanford Healthcare Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
He is survived by his children David (Kathy Hegge)Wolner of Montevideo, daughter Patricia (Michael)Walling of Waverly Hall,Ga,Thomas(Kristy) Wolner of Granite Falls, Mn and blessed with 8 grandchildren 11 great grandchildren another due April, siblings Joyce Wolner, Joan Bagley, Gary (Maridee)Wolner, Richard (Cory)Wolner, Stephen (Sandy)Wolner, Mark (Kathy)Wolner,Rebecca (Tom)Schmidt many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver Ruth Wolner, his wife of 65 yrs Donna Mae Morgan Wolner in Nov 2016, son Robert Garry Wolner June 1989, sisters Germaine Johnson, Janet Lee, Jane Mary Bergeman, brothers James, Robert, Joel, John Wolner
