Gary Wyffels

The funeral service for Edward “Gary” Wyffels, 78, of Marshall, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. A livestream of the service will be available at www.horvathfuneralservice.com. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Remembrance Center, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.

Gary Wyffels was born on January 5, 1944, in Marshall, the second of eleven children born to Vincent and Emmerence (Ferbuyt) Wyffels. He grew up on the family farm and attend Central Catholic High School, graduating from Marshall High School in 1962. Gary enlisted in the United States Army in 1965, serving as an equipment operator building roads in Thailand during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge in 1971, Gary returned home and continued farming. On November 11, 1973, Gary was united in marriage to Elaine Andries at Visitation Church in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Marshall, and farmed until 1986. At that time, Gary began working at the CHS Elevator until his retirement in 2016 at the age of 72. He officially quit for a year, then for the last few years has been driving truck for the elevator during the spring and fall.

Gary liked to stay busy, whether it be at home, helping the neighbors, or working with local farmers. He loved tinkering with gadgets and being the mastermind behind his wife and daughter’s big ideas. He loved nature and all animals, especially his birds and barn cats. Gary was described as a good soul, someone who was always happy and willing to help. Gary was a baker, and since his retirement, he made breakfast for Elaine every morning. He was adventurous, even though he was scared of heights, but he especially enjoyed being at with his family.

Gary died on Monday, October 3, 2022, due to a field accident. He is survived by his wife Elaine and daughter Mandy; siblings Tom (Becky) Wyffels, Brian Wyffels, Pam Lewis, Mary Ellen Wyffels, Sande Wyffels, Janet (Rich) Bruder, Renee (Kim) Wyffels, Reggie (Jim) Halbert and sister-in-law Cheryl Wyffels;  four adopted daughters, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joyce (Steve) Wentworth, brother Duane Wyffels, sisters-in-law Diane Wyffels and Jeanette (Donald) Pafko, and brother-in-law Marvin Andries.
