Florence Leona Bot Determan

Mass of Christian Burial for Florence Determan, 90, of Minneota, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2019, at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at St. Eloi Catholic Cemetery in Ghent. Florence Leona Bot was born to Charles Bot and Elizabeth (Brewers) Bot on January 20, 1929, in Grandview Township. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Central Catholic High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Florence married Robert Determan on December 29, 1949, at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Florence and Bob raised seven children and farmed throughout their entire married life. After Bob’s death in 1995, Florence remained living on the farm north of Ghent until 2011, when she moved to Minneota. Florence was a strong, intelligent, hardworking woman who helped on the dairy farm in addition to maintaining the home. She enjoyed quilting and needlework and created many beautiful pieces that will be treasured by her family. Her Catholic faith was very important to her. Florence died on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at Madonna Towers of Rochester, MN. Florence will be lovingly remembered by her children Dan (Pam) of Mankato, Tom (Pat) of Rochester, Joyce Karbula of Mansfield, Ohio, Michael (Marie) of Chanhassen, Marvin (Linda) of Marshall, Linda (Rich) Monsen of Carver, and Steve (Amy) of Rochester; 23 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers Rich, Raymond, Arnie, Fran (Joan) Bot; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son David in infancy, son-in-law Mick Karbula, and siblings Emerence Derynck, Bernard Bot and Vince Bot. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Eloi Catholic Church, Madonna Towers, or the donor’s choice.
