Eva L. Town age 94 of Balaton, MN died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton. Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, February 1, 2008 at the Balaton Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday, January 31, 2008 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at the Lakeside Cemetery in Balaton.
Eva Laurinda Town was born September 20, 1913 to Andrew and Laura (Hanson) Rasmussen on a farm northwest of Balaton, MN in Rock Lake Township, Lyon County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended country school. Eva then graduated from Balaton High School, where she played basketball. As a young woman, she was a waitress at several Balaton businesses, including Murphyâs.
On August 2, 1936 Eva married Leslie Town at the Presbyterian Church in Balaton. They made their home in Redmond, WA until 1946 when they returned to Balaton. She then went to work for Swiftâs in Marshall for nearly twenty years. Eva then became a caregiver to her father-in-law and then later her husband before their deaths.
Eva was a past member of the Balaton Presbyterian Church and later after it closed, she became a member of the Balaton Methodist Church, where she was active over the years in the churchesâ womenâs groups. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, her Wednesday coffee clutch of friends and playing cards with her sisters each week for many years. She will always be remembered by her many nieces and nephews, for her willingness and love of spending time with them.
In September of 2003 Eva became a resident of the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton where she died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the age of 94.
Eva is survived by her sister-in-law, Esther Rasmussen of Deerwood, MN; and although Eva had no children of her own, she is also survived by so many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great âgrand nieces and nephews, that it is not possible to mention them all here, but loved by all of them.
Her parents, husband, Les, one brother, Roy Rasmussen and six sisters, Anna Fuhrmann, Bertha Johnson, Cora Wixon, Olga Osborne, Amy Livingston and Verna Larson all preceded her in death.
