Emma Mary (Thooft) De Langhe was born on August 9, 1926, to Ernest J. and Maria (Dobbelaere) Thooft on the family farm west of Marshall. She attended country school and obtained her GED later in life. On January 18, 1950, she was united in marriage to Edward De Langhe. The couple farmed and raised their five boys and six girls south of Marshall. Emma worked hard and instilled the value of work and integrity in to her children. She was a very patient and kind wife and mother. Emma was an early feminist and always believed in helping people and treating everyone equally and fairly. She was instrumental in starting Beginning Experience and later Main Stay in Marshall. Emma continued her education with Senior College. She was a talented writer and authored many poems and short stories. She was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, belonged to Catholic Daughters of America and taught CCD. In 1992 she moved from the farm to town and for the last year she was living at Hill Street Place. Emma passed to her eternal home peacefully, in her sleep on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at her residence in Marshall. She is survived by her children Julie Hile of Marshall, John (and Denise) De Langhe of Colorado Springs, CO, Donald (and Teresa) De Langhe of Rural Marshall, Mary (and Jeff) De Langhe-Jones of Prior Lake, Ann (and Jim) Carrow of Marshall, Ernie De Langhe of Burnsville, Edine De Langhe of Madrid, IA, Nancy (and Tom) Poole of Mendota Heights, Daniel De Langhe of Rural Marshall, daughter-in-law Donna Morse of Fargo, 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, siblings Marian (and Leon) VanDenBroeke, Jeanette (and Vincent) Lanoue, Gene Thooft, sister-in-law Terry (and Jack) Hennen, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward, children Elaine and Greg, sons-in-law Denny and Scott and daughter-in-law Ann. Per executive order, masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed at all times.
