Emil James Serreyn was born on March 10, 1925, the middle of thirteen children to Franz and Johanna (Koenck) Serreyn. He was born in Pipestone County but was raised on the family farm in Lincoln County. On November 17, 1948, he married Delores Elaine Durheim of St. James, MN. Delores died on March 23, 1954. On February 14, 1961, he was married to Louise Van Den Broeke. Emil farmed in the Arco-Tyler area until 1969 when he moved to Marshall and began working with the Water Department, becoming Foreman. He retired in 1988 after 19 years of service. The couple moved to the Willmar Area and enjoyed field work during spring and fall. Emil and Louise moved back to Marshall in 2003. Emil enjoyed wood carving, rock polishing, welding, gardening, fishing, and hunting. He was most passionate about spending time with family, especially grandchildren.
Emil died on Sunday, March 21, 2010, at the Minneota Manor. He is survived by his wife, Louise, son Milo (and Jeanne) of Las Vegas, NV, daughter JoAnn (and Larry) Woltjer of Willmar, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brothers Stanley (and Julia)of Marshall, Leo (and Viola) of Sioux Falls, SD, sisters Ellen Christeon of Hobe Sound, FL, Irene (and Jullo) Kor of Marshall, Lillian (and James) Dale of Lynd. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Delores, stepson Donald, stepdaughter Elaine, brothers Henry, Oscar, Norman, Elmer, Albert, LeRoy and George.
