The funeral service for Elffie Mae Kopperud, 99, of Westbrook, will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at the Old Westbrook Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Visitation will be Friday, October 16, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. â 6:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Tracy. Visitation will continue on Saturday, October 24, from 1:00 p.m. â 2:00 p.m. at the Old Westbrook Lutheran church. Interment will follow the service at the church cemetery. Masks are required at all indoor spaces and social distancing restrictions will be followed. Elffie Mae Kopperud was born on September 18, 1921, in Rosehill Township to Ernest and Bertha (Bloch) Rachuy. She was baptized and confirmed at First Evangelical Lutheran Trinity Church in Westbrook. Elffie attended Country School District 59 in Rosehill Township. The family moved to the Bloch family farm southwest of Westbrook in 1937. Elffie left school after eighth grade to assist on the family farm. As a young woman, Elffie worked in various capacities as a housekeeper, baby sitter, at the Jack Sprat Grocery Store in Westbrook and as a Husker in the Rochester Corn Canning Factory.
On June 9, 1950, Elffie was married to Truman Kopperud at the American Lutheran Church (now Grace Lutheran) in Westbrook. The couple made their home on a farm in Ann Township near Westbrook from 1950 to 1981 when they retired and moved to Westbrook. Elffie was an active member of Old Westbrook Lutheran Church, holding offices in the Ladiesâ Aide, and in the Shetek Conference Womenâs Organization. She was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, and she sang in the choir. Elffie and Truman enjoyed volunteer work including driving for RSVP for many years. She was an active member of the local Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer Hair Dresser at Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook.
Elffie was especially passionate about her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Elffie died on Sunday, October 11, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook, MN. She is survived by her children Arlene (and Daniel) Geary of Greeley, CO, Diana (and Greg) Kvilhaug of Worthington, and Gordon (and Sheryl) Kopperud of Westbrook; grandchildren Dr. Andrew (and Krista) Kopperud, Matthew (and Dawn) Kopperud, Joanna (and Lynn) King, Rebekah (and Joe) Saffert, Kelly (and Mike) Agnew, and Graham Geary; great-grandchildren Annika, Elysa, and Britta Kopperud; Levi and Asher Kopperud; Moriah, Thaddeus, and Titus King; Cooper, Bowen, Everly, and Aisla Saffert; sister Orpha Emkes of Seymour, IN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Truman, parents, son Wallace, brother Marvin âBudâ Rachuy, sisters Ellen Nelsen and Muriel Gundermann, sister-in-law Diana Rachuy, brothers-in-law Lloyd Nelsen, Eugene âPeteâ Gundermann, and Bernard Emkes.
