A ceremony celebrating the life of Edmund “Ed” Marczak, 94, of Marshall, will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Remembrance Center.
Edmund John Marczak was born on March 29, 1932, in Marble Township, Lincoln County, to Anton and Cecelia (Sik) Marczak. He grew up on the family farm and attended Country School. Ed farmed on his family farm and took over the operation after his father was killed in a farm accident. He held many jobs in his life including a Deputy Sheriff in Lincoln County, Manager of a Fertilizer Plant in Wilmont, MN, and was the Assistant Manager of the Elevator in Ivanhoe until retiring in 1997. One day while dining at the Minnesota Café in Marshall, Ed took notice of a server. He told his dining companion that he would marry the young lady someday. That came true as Ed and Marlys Gladys were united in marriage on October 6, 1953. To this union were born children Sandy, Garrie, Brad, Randy, Kevin, Cindy and Kim. After retirement from the Elevator, the couple moved to Marshall where Ed worked for his son-in-law Mark Farrell with the Public Housing Commission.
Ed was a very hard worker with a great work ethic. He was always willing to help others and was generous with his time. Family was most important and Ed and Marlys enjoyed following many grandkids’ activities. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially time spent at Nest Lake, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed playing cards and following the Minnesota Twins.
Edmund died on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at home under hospice care and surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Marlys of Marshall, son Brad Marczak of Marshall, daughter Cindy (and Mark) Farrell of Ghent, daughter Kim (and Don) Culligan of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren Brianne (Davett) of Marshall, Wonder (Samantha) of Tea, SD, April (Jeremy) of Marshall, Bryan (Jennifer) of Owatonna, Susan (Dustin) of Lakeville, Dolan (Brittany) of Harrisburg, SD, ten great-grandchildren, siblings Lorraine Taveirne of Marshall, Jim Marczak of Madison, MN, Tony Marczak of Aurora, SD, Diane (Julius) Walters of Marshall, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sandy, sons Garrie, Randy and Kevin, siblings Alvin (Doris), Clarence (Bobbi), Helen (Warren), Floyd (Phyllis), and brother-in-law Donnie Taveirne.
