What a beautiful person Bill was. When I arrived at SSU in the fall of 1995 I recall how welcoming Bill was to me as a new member of the department. I remember how amused I was by Bill and my former communication studies colleague Bob Ridley. For me, they were the self appointed "Waldorf and Statler" of our dept. meetings--always poking fun at mundane things and getting off amazing one-liners that made me smile. For nearly 30 years he always greeted me with kind words and a Dove chocolate. I will miss him dearly. What an amazing legacy he's left behind.

As an undergrad at SSU, I needed an elective to fill a hole in my schedule. I added "Shut Up and Show the Movie" because of the provocative title. It was taught by Dr. Hezlep. We explored cinema as art, starting with "The Great Train Robbery", and ending with "Citizen Kane". Dr. Hezlep taught us to not just attend to the story-line and dialog, but to notice the cinematography, the lighting, and the music as well. I became a life-long cinephile because of Bill Hezlep; he made my life richer and fuller.

I will always remember Bill as a person who welcomed me to the SMSU community, and through his example, challenged me to be make contributions equal to his own. I will miss his spirit, intellect, humor and open-mindedness. His memory is indeed a blessing.
