The funeral service for Dennis William Mitchell, 63, of Garvin, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at the Balaton United Methodist Church in Balaton.  Visitation will be Monday, November 28, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Balaton.  Visitation will continue on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Interment will follow the service at Lakeside Cemetery in Balaton.

Dennis William Mitchell was born on December 12, 1958, in Tracy, MN, to Darrel and Ruth (Munson) Mitchell.  He grew up in the Garvin area and graduated from Balaton High School in 1977.  Dennis attended Vocational Technical School in Granite Falls for two years.  On August 6, 1983, he was united in marriage to Kathy Terhark in Balaton. 

The couple farmed and raised their son, Nick, in rural Garvin.  Dennis was proud to be a fourth-generation farmer.  He enjoyed traveling and especially snowmobiling.  He also enjoyed boating and fishing.  He was a collector of models, toys, and pedal tractors. The couple also enjoyed time spent at their lake home on Lake Victoria near Alexandria.

Dennis died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall.  He is survived by his wife, Kathy, and son, Nicholas, of Garvin and sister Debra Mitchell of Plymouth, mother-in-law June Terhark of Balaton, in-laws Deb (and Kevin) Stibbe of Balaton, Becky (and Randy Jr.) Schreier of Garvin and Sherry (and Mike) Carter of Marshall, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, brother Gerald, sister Jane, and two sisters in infancy.
