Debra "Deb" Kay Nielsen

Mass of Christian Burial for Debra “Deb” Nielsen, 66, of Marshall, will take place at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be Monday, December 6, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at the Remembrance Center. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. A livestream and recording of the service will be available at www.horvathfuneralservice.com.

Debra “Deb” Kay Nielsen was born on May 3, 1955, in Marshall to James and Geraldine (Lindsay) Calvin. She grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School in 1973. Deb later attended the Granite Falls Vocational Technical School and graduated in 1987. On August 4, 1989, she was united in marriage to Ken Nielsen. The couple lived south of Marshall. Deb enjoyed camping and gardening but was most passionate about her grandchildren. She worked for the Schwan Food Company for 25 years and was recently working for Vishay HIREL Systems in Marshall.


Deb passed away peacefully on Monday, November 29, 2021, surrounded by family at her home in Marshall, after a brief illness with lung cancer. She is survived by her husband, Ken, of Marshall, children Kris Fenton of Jasper, Heather (and Nick) Magelee of St. Peter, Brad (and Jennie) Nielsen of Foley, Stacie (and Jarett) Munneke of Parkston, SD, grandchildren Cassidy and Jesse Fenton; Blake and Annika Magelee; Lincoln, Emmitt, Karsyn and Kaelien Nielsen; Porter and Lenora Munneke; her father James Calvin and siblings Vickie Radel, Danny (and Donna) Calvin, Donnie (and Julie) Calvin and Mike (and Nanci) Calvin, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Geraldine Calvin.
